1-2-3 of Baby Assad

Unquestionably, the man is a vermin. Still - when he is right, he is right. Check this out:

  1. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad warned Western nations against supporting rebel groups battling his armed forces, predicting the militants will one day strike against the United States and others. Check.
  2. In an hourlong interview with Syria state TV network al-Ikhbariya, al-Assad claimed the West is supporting al Qaeda sympathizers in Syria as he says they did during the Libyan uprising. Check.
  3. He compared the support of rebels in Syria now to the backing of fighters in Afghanistan during their war with Soviet troops in the 1980s. Check.
Shit or shite - what will it be, ladies and gentlemen?

I have no evidence, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Syrians did it. They have a sophisticated enough security outfit to do a one off. Assad has been threatening us. Use Al Qeada means and methods to throw suspicion on them (our ally in Syria according to Assad) and split us away from supporting any Syrian resistance.

I would say that there is no shortage of suspect at the moment. However, the end result could be still a surprise. As for helping out Syrians - I will be darned if I know which side is better. Or worse, for that matter.

It's pretty clear by now (quotes from uncle in Maryland and father back in Russia) that they were Chechens on visas. On the other hand I hear Chechen volunteers are fighting in Syria---though for which side is unclear---so you never know.

If Chechens are fighting in Syria, most probably it is on Al Qaeda's side. This is what they've done in Iraq and Afghanistan.
