Mossad pencils in Saudi Arabia, Ehud Barak vs Tanzania and more

A regular VIP blooper:

"Germany, France and England are not Tanzania, Mauritania or Tripolitania [a region in Libya]," said Barak, noting places whose names rhyme with England in Hebrew. "These are very important, very relevant countries and we don't have an interest in increasing tensions with them or making them bitter enemies."
And now it's a diplomatic tiff... According to the rumors Barak sent out to purchase a world map and a rhyming dictionary.

In an unrelated incident:
Saudi authorities investigating how Kravitz pencils with Hebrew logo showed up in kingdom. 'We have no idea how this happened; our products are only distributed in the local market,' says company CEO.
Do you know how much electronic equipment Mossad is able to squeeze in every pencil? Even I shudder at the thought...

Spain emerges as an Israeli ally in Europe. Get that map of the world to Barak ASAP, just in case.

Arab League monitors arrive in Damascus:

Thank goodness.

Israel targets suspected militants in Gaza, CNN say. Nope, they are not suspected, not anymore...

Ach even if Tanzania lower on the diplomatic pecking order than France or the UK it is a pretty dumb to to insult the country.

I daresay the Tanzanian government may now put Israeli companies lower down the pecking order when it comes to contracts...

Yes, how dumb can an Israeli politician get? Really dumb. All the efforts to create some kind of good relationships in Africa  and then, this utterly stupid and unnecessary self-sabotage. This more or less, but not quite, illustrates my point:

And they will be right too...

How dumb? No one measured the depth of potential dumbness of a politician...

The Spanish are afraid we Jews will move back.

And why not? Some Sephardic families still have the keys to the fifteenth century homes in Andalusia ...

I use to think that Barak was the smart one in the current Israeli cabinet, boy was I wrong!
Snoopy, you are right that there is no way to estimate the potential dumbness of any politician of any country.

Well, we have a dumb leftist politician in a key position (defense) and a dumb rightist politician in a key position (foreign). This might be the most balanced israeli government ever!

I wonder if the spanish flip-flop is a reaction to the epic fail of european multiculturalism, or a reaction to the almost-there fail of european brother-and-euro-hood. I guess it would be unrealistic to hope that sanity found at last a way into Europe's political circles.

I agree that sanity doesn't have a lot to do with it, but a change in the governing party does.
